Retouching is the process of making a captured image into an indelible communication through the manipulation of shape, color, light and shadow. Post production takes many forms. Some assignments require that the raw photographs be taken with the end product in mind rather than what the lens can reproduce. A single image is often composited from many and often from different settings through a range of focal lengths. This is where the professional retoucher enters. Assembling the pieces, painstakingly manipulating the forms and even painting in details by borrowing textures. The goal is to create an image that is achievable in no other way than to build it. This is a small sampling of some of the more challenging retouching assignments I have taken on over the years.
